Changes Since E-Z Audit Version
9
- Files saved and used by E-Z Audit are no longer
under C:\Program Files\EZAudit.
On Windows 2000 and XP, the folders are under C:\Documents and
Settings\All Users\Application Data\EZAudit\9
On Windows Vista, they are under the folder C:\Program Data\EZAudit\9
These are the folders and their contents:
- Audits - Any audits you choose to copy to your PC
should be placed in this folder. Your evaluation user audit of your
own PC is saved to this folder.
- Cache - Files used by E-Z Audit.
- Intranet Scanner Configuration Files - If
you use the Intranet Scanner Module, here is where the scan.htm file is
saved to.
- Logs - Error logs files.
- Network Scanner Configuration Files - When you
configure the Network Scanner Module, the configuration files (*.ezc) are
saved to this folder.
- Program - Files required by E-Z Audit.
- Reports - The default folder for saving exports
from E-Z Audit. The HTML Master Report is saved here as well.
- Resources - Files required by E-Z Audit.
- Working - Files required by E-Z Audit.
To assist existing and new users, we have added a
number of features that will guide and assist you so this folder structure
becomes more transparent and easy to use.
For example, when you configure an audit, you are shown exactly what to do:

- The Full audits now skip files in the dllcache
folder. Options exist to skip the entire %WINDIR% folder and
subfolders as well.
- You can exclude Services from being audited
- You can exclude most Hot Fixes and Service Packs
from being listed in the Installed Software Titles list.
- You no longer configure the scanner at the server
using 'ezscan.exe /config'.
A new module, config.exe is now available to copy to your server to perform
these "on the fly" configuration changes or additions.
It is in the C:\Program Files\EZAudit\Scanner folder.

Converting audits created with an earlier version
You can only convert audits created with E-Z Audit Versions 6,
through 9 to E-Z Audit Version 10 format.
You can not convert audits that were already converted
once from an earlier version, for example Version 8 audits converted to Version
9 format, or any audits older than Version 6.
All efforts have been made to make the audits as compatible as possible but the
following items must be observed as critical guidelines and warnings.
Failure to do so is at your own risk and unsupported.
-
Converted audits will lack any data that became available
only in later versions.
-
Because converted audits may lack certain information,
mixing converted audits and new audits created with the current version in a
single location (folder) can
result in incorrect summaries or other reports and other potential errors.
As one example, Version 8 introduced the ability to skip the Windows system
folders when performing a Full audit. A search for a file in a
%WINDIR% folder or sub-folder would return results for pre-Version 8 Full audits,
but no results for
audits created with either Version 8 or 9 if you selected the option to skip
the %WINDIR% folder and subfolders. Hence, the file counts would not
be a true count as the older audits contain the data, and newer audits do
not as you opted to exclude it.
-
In view of the above, we very
strongly advise against mixing converted audits and new audits.
Keep converted audits in a separate folder from new audits.
To Convert:
The converter utility automatically deletes the old version audit upon
conversion. It is strongly recommended that you back up the old
audits to another folder or other backup media.
In the Admin Console, convert your audits from the File > Convert Earlier Version
Audits menu options.
The utility is self-explanatory.
