License changes 2012 Q & A

What's New

Starting January 1, 2012, E-Z Audit has moved to make our licensing even easier, and with greater benefits for our customers.

We have also dropped pricing by 50% or more in conjunction with the changes.

  • All new licenses purchased on or after January 1, 2012 are now annual-subscription licenses.

  • During the one year period you get

    • All updates to the licensed version

    • Free upgrades to any full, new versions released

    • Tech support for one full year

  • Included in the license price are all the same extras you have gotten before:

    • E-Z Audit On-Demand auditing

    • Command Line exporting

    • E-Z Audit Remote audit

Q:  How is this a better license than before?

With a subscription-based license we can offer an initial (first-time purchase) price that is substantially lower because we do not need to maintain multiple development tracks to continually update older versions.  In fact, on January 1, 2012, the prices were rolled back to our 2006 prices!

Going forward, you stay on a current, supported version at all times, and can do so at a deeply discounted price that is lower than the traditional "upgrade pricing", and does not require any additional "maintenance" or "software assurance" types of add-ons.

Q:  What happens to my existing perpetual license?

No change whatsoever.

You can continue using the purchased version you currently have of E-Z Audit for as long as you wish.  Of course, upgrading is recommended once your version goes out of support but that's entirely your choice to make.

Q:  I purchased the 1-year upgrades and support option.  What happens to that?

It remains valid until its scheduled expiration date.  During that time you continue to be eligible for free upgrades to any full new version released, continue to get all updates and technical support and your upgraded license remains a perpetual license.  (Your 1-Year upgrade and support option must have been valid on 10 October, 2011, the release date for E-Z Audit 2012.)

When it expires your perpetual license is still in effect, but you won't have free upgrades and technical support is limited to problem-resolution only (no how-to type of support).

If you want to continue receiving the benefits of free upgrades and full technical support, you can purchase a new, subscription based license converting your perpetual license to the new model.

Q:  I have an earlier version of E-Z Audit and want to upgrade.  What do I do?

It's easier than ever.  As all licenses are now annual subscriptions, just go to our order page and purchase a license for the number of PCs you require.  Download the new version and upgrade using the information in the user's guide.

Since the new licensing is subscription based and includes free upgrades and a full year of technical support, there is no upgrade pricing.   Remember, the prices have been cut substantially, and you no longer need an option "software assurance" or other additions to stay current.

Q:  I have an existing perpetual license and need to add more PCs.  How will that work?

If you are using E-Z Audit 2012 (Version 14) and have a perpetual license for, say, 100 PCs, and you have outgrown that and need to add 50 PCs, you can do so, and the additional 50 PCs license is also perpetual.

Contact E-Z Audit sales to increase existing (pre-January 2012) licenses.

No license increases are possible for any earlier version as they are now out of support.

Q:  How would a license size increase work during the 1 year term of a subscription?

If you need to add more PCs to a license, you can add them at any time during your subscription term and they will be valid until the end of the original subscription expiration.  Pricing will be pro-rated accordingly.

For example, you have a license with 6 months to go and want to add 50 new PCs.  The 50 PC addition would be priced pro-rating the cost less 6 months, i.e. 1/2 price.

At the end of the subscription you would just renew for the total number of PCs you need at that time.
