 Upgrading from an earlier version of E-Z Audit

To address the first question upgrade customers have:

E-Z Audit Version 12 can convert audits from Versions 8 onwards to the Version 12 format.  This allows you to keep the data until you re-audit your PCs using Version 12.

This is accessed via the Edit menu in the E-Z Audit console. Read the conversion advisory.

 Applicable to all users:

Remove the existing version via the Windows Control Panel "Add/Remove Software" or "Programs and Features".

Install the new version at your PC from www.ezaudit.net/download

Start E-Z Audit at your PC and create a new configuration file.

Copy the new configuration file to your the location of your existing configuration file on your server.

Copy the new modules to replace the existing ones on your server:  ezstart.exe, ezscan.exe and optionally ondemand.exe and config.exe

If you want to retain the previous version starting from Version 8 audits, back them up from their current location.

In the E-Z Audit admin console, select Edit > Convert and convert your existing audits.

Read the conversion advisory.

Learn about On-Demand auditing, which is now included.

Learn about E-Z Audit Remote for remote audits, which is now included.

Are you currently using E-Z Audit On-Demand?

E-Z Audit On-Demand is now included as part of E-Z Audit Version 12.

Read the What's New section of the On-Demand User's Guide for upgrade steps for On-Demand

Are you currently using E-Z Audit Media?

E-Z Audit now includes the ability to audit up to eight non-program file extensions of your choosing.  So you can discontinue using E-Z Audit Media if the built-in functionality is enough for your needs.

If you choose to continue using E-Z Audit Media, note that the ezscan.exe audit module in Version 12 will not automatically launch E-Z Audit Media's audit.  You will need to add the command line to launch E-Z Audit Media's audit as per the instructions in the E-Z Audit Media User's Guide.

Upgrading from a version earlier to Version 9?

The following changes were made starting with E-Z Audit Version 9.5 due to requirements in Windows Vista (and now Windows 7) and are important to note:

  • Files saved and used by E-Z Audit are no longer under C:\Program Files\EZAudit

    On Windows 2000 and XP, the folders are in:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\EZAudit\{version #}

    On Windows Vista or Windows 7 they are in:

    C:\Program Data\EZAudit\{version #}

    These are the folders and their contents:
    • Audits - Any audits you choose to copy to your PC should be placed in this folder.  Your evaluation user audit of your own PC is saved to this folder.
    • Cache - Files used by E-Z Audit.
    • Logs - Error logs files.
    • Network Scanner Configuration Files - When you configure the Network Scanner Module, the configuration files (*.ezc) are saved to this folder.
    • Program - Files required by E-Z Audit.
    • Reports - The default folder for saving exports from E-Z Audit.  The HTML Master Report is saved here as well.
    • Resources - Files required by E-Z Audit.
    • Working - Files required by E-Z Audit.

    To view these locations on Vista and Windows 7:

    In Windows Vista or 7, open Windows Explorer and click the Organize button, then Folder and Search Options.  Click the View tab and select the View Hidden Files and Folders option.

    You will then be able to browse the C:\ProgramData\EZAudit folders.
