Audit using a CD, USB flash drive or diskette

Using a CD-R  |  Using a USB flash drive  |  Using a diskette

Audit using a CD-R

  • Create a configuration file for use in the CD.  Use the Scanners > Configure Automated audits for Network, USB, Disc menu option. See Configuring the scanner for details on configuring the scanner.

  • In the configuration process, make the "save-to" path for saving the audits a:\ if you want the CD to automatically save the results to a floppy.

    • You have the use of two "variables"  if your users do not have a floppy drive.  You can enter %MYDOCS% and it will save to their My Documents folder, or %DESKTOP% and it will save to their desktop.  You can then instruct them to attach the audit to an email and send it back to you.

  • Burn all the files in the Scanner folder on your PC under \Program Files\EZAudit\Software, plus the configuration file (name it config.ezc when you save it) and the autorun.inf file found in that  folder to the root of a CD-R.  Note that CD-RW can fail on some machines as the drivers for read/write CDs sometimes inhibit running .exe files from the CD or may require additional drivers.  CD-R is your most reliable choice.

  • Send the CD out to your users.  If you know they have a floppy, have them put in the diskette, then insert the CD.  Otherwise, just insert the CD and E-Z Audit will run and save the audit.

TIP: If you use a CD-R and want to do hands-on audits at PCs (example: send out a tech to manually audit a location)  and just want to use the CD as a place to hold the audit module files, omit the autorun.inf file and the config.ezc  At the PC, just click the ezscan.exe file and run the audit manually then save the results to a diskette.

Auditing using a USB "flash" drive

  • Create a configuration file for use in the USB.  Use the Scanners > Configure Automated audits for Network, USB, Disc menu option. See Configuring the scanner for details on configuring the scanner.

  • In the configuration process, make the "save-to" path %USB%

  • Create a folder on your USB called EZAudit and a subfolder called Audits.  This is mandatory.  So you'll have: \EZAudit\Audits.

  • Place autorun.inf ezscan.exe, ezstart.exe (from the \Program Files\EZAudit\Scanners folder), and your configuration file into the EZAudit folder.

  • When inserted into the PC's USB port, it should autorun.  If not, the user can right-click the drive letter and select the option to run the audit, or click Start > Run and type x:\EZAudit\ezstart.exe /auto

Auditing using a diskette

Auditing from a diskette is an option recommended for use by your own staff as opposed to your users.  It should be used in cases where you must audit a PC manually that does not have a network connection, USB port or CD drive.

  • Copy the file ezscan.exe under C:\Program Files\EZAudit\Scanner folder where you installed E-Z Audit (on your PC) a floppy disk to take with you.

  • At the target PC, click ezscan.exe to start the scanner and run your scan.

  • Save the results to a second floppy to take back with you. You then can copy the floppies onto your PC or a folder on your LAN to access and use via the E-Z Audit Admin Console.
