Auditing from your Intranet
The configuration of the intranet module is similar to the LAN version.
You access the configuration utility from the Scanners menu in the Admin Console.
The differences are:
-
If your intranet users are also inside your LAN or
WAN and can save to one of your servers you can have the audit results saved
to your server by entering a path.
While not the common usage for the intranet module, it is useful if you want
to do an ad-hoc audit of a user on your network, as one example.
-
Unique to the Intranet Scanner,
can have the
user taken automatically to a Web page of your design and choosing when the
audit completes.
There you can direct the user on how to return the
audit back to you. For example, as an email attachment or via an upload
script.
Note that we do not provide you with upload scripts. There are numerous scripts
for uploading files available on the Web.
It must
be up to you to decide what's best and implement it.
We assume a
certain level of proficiency with intranets from anyone
wishing to use our Intranet module.
See below for examples of how you can use this.
-
All audits are encrypted and saved to the
root of the user's My Documents folder.
This is done so you
have a universal, predictable location to point your users to if you
instruct them to upload the file, or to attach it to an email message.
-
No configuration file is created.
-
An HTML page called scan.htm is created with the code needed to load the
ActiveX component to run the audit.
-
When you finish the configuration,
you will be advised where it has been saved and what you place on your IIS
server.
-
All you place is the scan.htm file (which you can
rename) and ezscan.CAB, the Scanner Module cabinet file.

Security Info:
This scanner can not be run silently or
invisible or passively for security reasons. We do not want it
used to obtain information via the Web in any way where a user in unaware that
it is happening. Our regular scanner runs via your LAN or WAN, and so is
under your control, and those PCs being scanner are part of your network.
Scanning via an ActiveX control does not retain that control.
Also for security reasons the audit data is only saved to the user's
hard drive and if available to them, to a LAN/WAN-based path.
Below are examples of a page you can create that the users
would see when the audit completes if you select the "Jump to URL" option
instead of the "Save to path" option:

How do I start using it?
-
You can evaluate the Intranet Module at any time.
However, to unlock it's features you must have an Unlock Key for the
Intranet Module.
Check online at
www.ezaudit.net/reg for our
pricing, and check which levels include the intranet module.
-
Once you are registered you can request an unlock key from
us to enable the full features of the Intranet module at
regcode@ezaudit.net if your license level permits it.
-
To deploy your scanner module and
the scan.htm file, you simply copy them to your Web server into a single
folder.
The location of the files are as follows:
Special considerations when using to audit Windows Vista PCs:
Windows Vista has changed the security landscape and it even affects Microsoft-specific tools like WMI and ActiveX.
Please
read this information regarding use of the Intranet module on your intranet.
