FAQ and Support for ezaudit

The User's Guide has the "Getting Started Guide" and in-depth topics.
There is a FAQ for installing E-Z Audit on the download page.

Pre-Sales FAQ for evaluators

Can I try ezaudit free before I decide?

Yes! Try ezaudit for 30-days from the date you install it on your PC.

Download a free evaluation of ezaudit.  You get the same full, in-house technical support while you try it out as you would as a registered user.

ezaudit is easy to and takes just minutes from download to ready-to-audit.

How do I deploy ezaudit?

You don't in the usual sense the word 'deploy' means. 'Deploy' is a big project.  It's ezaudit , so, of course, its easy.

Here's how.

From download to ready-to-audit takes 10 minutes or less.

Nothing to install onto your server, no clients to push or install to your PCs.

No changes to firewalls, no ports to open or reserve.

No databases to set up - in fact no databases whatsoever.

Do I have to write scripts to get information?

Unlike some "discovery tools", there's no need to create any PowerShell or VBScript files.

All configuration is point-and-click and takes seconds.

Do I need to install anything to the PCs I will be auditing?

Nothing is installed or changed on PCs you audit.

Do I need to install anything on my server or run any services on it?

No. We don't pollute your server like competing products.

Three easy steps to get started using ezaudit - it takes just minutes.

Do I have to make changes to Remote Registry, change firewall settings or depend on opening ports of any kind?

No, never. That alone makes E-Z Audit safer and easier than any competing product.

We don't need SNMP, Remote Registry, an Admin password or any port unblocking.  In fact, we don't even send traffic back and forth across your LAN to perform our audits.

We work as-is with what you have.  Easy.

Do you depend on WMI or reading the registry to get software details or do you actually read whole hard drives to get your data?

We read the whole hard drive on our Full Audits.  Competing products can't find what E-Z Audit can find.  Period.

We find all software, not just "installed" software.  So an .EXE file copied into My Documents from a USB stick someone brought from home against policy...we'd catch that.

Also, we can audit other than program executables if you want information about, say, drivers or DLL's.  Also, you can inventory non-program files as well.  Find users that are downloading movies or music or storing Office documents on their PCs that belong on your server.

How fast are audits?

Seconds. Blazing fast.

The Basic audit has what most users want and takes as little as 5 seconds to run.

And our Basic Audit is what many if not most competing products consider a full audit.  Ask them "Can you find an .EXE file that's been copied to a PC into the Documents folder?  Can you find any file that I want to find?"

E-Z Audit's Full Audit reads all the local drives on a PC for program files and, at your discretion, other types of system files, non-program files like Word documents, PST/OST, video, pictures - pretty much whatever extensions you want.

It is truly a Full audit that will even find programs files copied, not installed, to a PC or server like portable apps.

Full audits can take as little as a minute or so. Of course, the more you want us to inventory, the longer that can take.  It's very light-touch on your user's PC.

You can even set a delay of your choosing from when the user logs in before the audit starts so that all the stuff that happens (like AV updates, Google Chrome updates, etc., ad nauseam).

If ezaudit reads the hard drive for a Full Audit, won't that bog down our PCs?

No. We have methods that make the process very light touch.

A typical business-grade PC that's relatively new can complete a full audit in a minute or so.

There are a lot of programs that update themselves at startup and others that start syncing at logon.  We handle that problem easily.

You can delay our audit by up to 999 seconds (and that's long time) so we're not in the mix while the rest of this stuff is running.  Google, Firefox, Adobe, all antivirus products and others start their "behind the scene" updates at user logon.

So, our audit module can just sit back and wait for the traffic jam to clear up.

And, what we do to get info from your drives for all program data:  that's the secret-sauce that makes us so much faster.

What's the load on our server likely to be?

How does zero impact sound?

Nothing runs on your server.  We don't have traffic going out and back from your server unlike "discovery tool" types of audits.

We don't push out any agents. There are no databases running unlike other audit tools that have their own SQL or other database on your server.  In fact, we don't have any databases.  Really.

Look at it this way: put notepad.exe on a share and have your users run Notepad from that share.  What's the impact?  Effectively zero. Save a file back to the server from Notepad.  That's basically zero impact.  Same thing with us.

What kind of reports can I get?

ezaudit exports audit data to an Intranet-ready HTML "Master report" that's great for sharing with your IT staff or management, and many drill-down reports to CSV, Excel and Microsoft Access MDB formats.

Reports are all point-and-click and you can get them intuitively from almost everywhere in the program depending on what data you are exploring.

Can I audit small branch offices that are not on our WAN or that haven't got the IT skills for that task? How about home office workers?

Yes! And it's a breeze for those remote users.

Can I set what to audit and when?  What sort of control do I have over the process?

You're in control.

You can decide how often you want PCs audited ‐ daily, weekly, etc.

You choose Basic or Full Audits, and on the latter you can add many program extensions SYS, OCX even VBS.

Audit non-program files like DOCX, PDF, MP3: your choice.

Or audit at any time with our ezaudit On Demand tool

Does my audit data get sent anywhere?

Never. Your data is yours, period.

Simple as that.  We don't get any information about your audits whatsoever.  If you've considered freeware, remember: nothing's free.  Your data is their income.

Zero telemetry and no cloud - all data is on your server, period.  That's why we have so many customers that operate in air gapped networks where security is paramount like nuclear power stations and military facilities.

How do I uninstall ezaudit?

It's easy...

To remove it from your PC (where you installed it to)  go to Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features.  To remove the server-side items, read this.
